About Neil Bosdet

I have a picture of me building my first birdhouse. It's B&W and I'm about 5 or so years old and still had hair. I've always loved creating and find I naturally gravitate to wood. My father passed away when I was still young at 13. I learned to fix things after that as I was the "man" in the house from this point on. Through my life I've been many things including a custom home builder. But I keep coming back to smaller wooden projects. It's just me and what I like. My "Funktional Art" was born from the desire to build a better Pizza Peel. My wife and I are self proclaimed gourmet cooks and love Italy. We have a fondness for, among many other things, really good, thin crust pizza. We love making our own and having pizza parties. Many years ago when I shopped for a decent pizza paddle I was stumped. Nothing of interest on the market. So I made my own. Then friends and famliy wanted them. Then, try and find a high quality, End Grain Cutting Board. Tough to do. I have many ideas for more products with only time being an issue. They will come. Thanks for visiting my store and I hope my products will share a spot in your kitchen.

Jimmy Clewes & me Jimmy Clewes Platter Jimmy Clewes Platter 2I spent a fabulous Saturday with Jimmy Clewes.  The Vancouver Island Woodturners Guild (I’m a member) brought him in from Las Vegas for a day long demonstration of techniques and stories.  I love this guy.  So many similarities.  I hope to see him again.  I will be introducing new pieces of “Funktional” Art based on today!

Flooring for the new shop

This will be the new flooring for the shop

This will be the new flooring for the shop

Found flooring for the new shop this week. Yippeee! I want the floors to be hardwood but it’s a shop so the budget is low. Amy from Slegg found me a good deal on this Hickory hardwood floor from Armstrong.

Acres Away Woodworks is Moving!

My wife and I have sold our home in Yellow Point and are moving to Victoria.  We have a bought an acreage in the Brentwood Bay area.  6583 Wallace Dr.  I will be shutting the shop down around the beginning of April.  The move date is May 2nd.  I will be outfitting the new shop once we’re in and I expect to be back in production sometime in July.  Look forward to an open house around Labour Day to celebrate the new shop.  My current shop is about 600 sq ft.  The new one is about 800 sq ft on the ground floor and 600 in the loft.  The main floor will house the shop and the loft will be my finishing and packaging area as well as a gallery.  Here’s a photo of the new home for Acres Away Woodworks.

New Site!

Acres Away Woodworks is back with a new site and new look!  We have been overdue for an update for a number of months now.  Have a look around.  It’s a WordPress site and I’m learning how to work with it.  Please comment and let me know what you think.  Suggestions and comments are welcome!
